About Us

PfP is a creative solution to South Africa' education crisis - it is a co-action, co-learning partnership between School Principals and Business Leaders, enabling social cohesion through partnerships, and empowering Principals to become change leaders in their schools and communities. The programme facilitates cross-sectoral reciprocal partnerships between Business, Government and the Social Sector. The PfP Programme was founded in 2010 when Louise van Rhyn (Director and Founder), became the first Business Leader to partner with a Principal in an effort to improve a school's education outcomes. The initiative speaks to the idea that enhancing the quality of education, improving the school environment and encouraging engagement between parents and teachers are meaningful and attainable goals that would provide an upward spiral of real change in society. By placing the school at the centre of community we believe that a radical transformation can be achieved in the education sector.

PfP, the flagship programme of registered NPC Symphonia for South Africa, was established after Dr Louise van Rhyn, an expert in complex social change, met with Ridwan Samodien, the Principal of Kannemeyer Primary School in Grassy Park, Cape Town. Dr van Rhyn had recently returned to South Africa from a career abroad and Samodien told her about the challenges of managing an under-resourced school in an environment plagued by poverty and its related social ills. Dr van Rhyn and Samodien co-founded PfP, a programme that brings together skilled business leaders and school principals of under resourced schools in 12-month supported journey of leadership development for both partners. Together, the partnership receives high quality formal training underwritten by the University of the Western Cape, as well as coaching and the support of a community of similar partnerships, while they apply their new skills and existing abilities and tap into their networks to tackle challenges facing their schools.
